Andrew is a queer ceramic-based performance artist from Cuero and San Antonio, Texas. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Morris, teaching Ceramics and Photography. He received his MFA from UMass Dartmouth in 2017 and is a member of the artist collective The Lullwood Group. Previously, he received his BFA from UTSA in 2011, and his AA & AS from Victoria College in 2009.
He has been named one of the 2018 NCECA Emerging Artists. The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts' convention will be held March 14-17 in Pittsburgh, PA, and the Emerging Artist exhibition will be inside the David L. Lawrence Convention Center Hall B.
As an artist, I seek not to appease, but rather to confront. In order to do so, my work and my practice bluntly question popularized ideals of beauty and desire; I seek my own alternative version of beauty that accepts and is influenced by the unexpected or the traumatic. Through an open-narrative in material, I consume and integrate process-oriented craft within performance and photography to create a unique moment.
